Elizabeth Roberts
Hi! I’m Elizabeth. I’m a state registered dietitian in the UK and I specialise in eating disorders and other problems of appetite.

Have you or your child been diagnosed with anorexia, bulimia or another type of eating disorder? Or perhaps you are tired of the dieting treadmill? Fed up of weight cycling, of dieting and then overeating, feeling bad about yourself, and starting a diet over again, vowing to do it better this time. Maybe you are feeling out of control with your eating, or stuck in a rut of orthorexia and rigid food rules that you are afraid to break? Perhaps you are recovering from an eating disorder and don’t know how to eat more flexibly or no longer know if you are hungry or full or what they are meant to feel like? Perhaps you have started a GLP-1 and don’t know if you are doing the right thing or are worried about what comes next. I can help.

I can help you renourish from anorexia, or support your child to get back to healthy, and I can be there for you as you take your first steps towards normal eating. I can support you as you start with the difficult process of weight restoring and getting back to healthy, but also when the time comes to return to a more intuitive style of eating. I can help you learn to tune in to your body’s wisdom and appetite to tell you what and how much to eat. I can support you with practical aspects, like meal planning and problem solving, to improve nutrition. I can help you start to eat more flexibly, to trust your body to tell you what to eat and to tune in to your body’s wisdom and appetite.

I am trained in the Maudsley FT-AN approach to adolescent eating disorders, and also a certified intuitive eating counsellor. I work with both young people and adults. I regularly see people with appetite problems related to a range of mental health problems, including psychosis and schizophrenia. I have supported many people using GLP-1s and take an entirely non-judgemental position on their use, because I understand the science of appetite regulation. I am well versed in the emerging biological science of eating disorders, and many people I have helped and their families have found it empowering to understand why some of the feelings and behaviours might be happening for them.

I have worked in several areas of clinical practice over the years (including bowel problems, coeliac disease, allergies and diabetes), which means I have a lot of experience and can help you navigate most nutritional problems that often run alongside problems of impaired appetite regulation. I also take a keen interest in interoception, how this links to problems of eating and practices to work that muscle! The insular cortex is my favourite part of the brain.

I also happen to LOVE ❤️ nutrition, science and learning about how and why we eat and what can go wrong along the way. Check out some of my blog posts to hear more about the interesting research I have been reading. There I also talk about what this might mean for you and the difficulties you might be facing right now.
